I just received some sad news from Jason... Mrs. Winters died earlier this week. Her funeral was in the past day or two from what Jason said. She is the mother of long time arts supporter and patron Ms. Elizabeth Foshee. They were season ticket holders and I'm sure Ms. Elizabeth will continue to come. Jason said that he was going to ask her about the list that goes in the program.

Congratulations to two of my good friends!!! Amy Newsom is the recipient of the Elementary Education Award from Faulkner University's Education Department. One of her co-operating teachers was quoted this morning as being "born to teach"!! Amy is so very sweet and I am sure is just a great a teacher as this teacher thinks!! David Brown is the recipient of the Theatre Award for the second year running. The sole current theatre professor, Sam Wallace, stated that he felt David was deserving of the award for his accomplishments this year. David has appeared onstage as the lead in both The Importance of Being Earnest and Our Town, as well as designing phenomenal sets for not only the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate's Townswomens Guild's Dramatic Society's Production of A Christmas Carol but also Alabama Rain. Speaking as an actress who performed on the set for Farndale... Christmas Carol, the set was great to work on. It was simple and left lots of room to "play", but was still interesting and fun to see and be on. As someone who saw Alabama Rain "30 times", two-story house, climb-able tree, AND REAL RAIN ONSTAGE... need I say more?! Oh, and I almost forgot... he's a Math major, too!!
There's a church in Texas that's already blessed to have Amy and her husband, Todd, working with the youth as the Youth Minister, but will also be blessed again this summer to have David as an intern with the youth group.

Here's some thoughts I posted on another blog... there's some really good dialogue going on at the GST blog. Check it out at the link to the right...
Ahh, it just hit me... there's the idea that it's somewhat akin to an owner's manual. There are some things that you inherently know about a piece of electronics or an appliance and you know it's in there somewhere, but you don't have to look it up. Then again, if you're like me and want to set your parent's VCR to record something for them, you have to pull out the manual. Along those same lines, I had an interesting time with my parent's new DVD player we bought Daddy for his birthday. I volunteered to try to hook it up for him. I thought I could do it without the directions with as many as I've attempted to hook up. But I couldn't figure it out, so then I got out the instructions only to find that they didn't help either.
I stopped there in the post but want to elaborate a tad. I feel like that's a classic example of the way we treat our lives. We try to do it ourselves, but it doesn't work... in a nutshell, that the gist. We eventually go to God once we get it through our thick skulls. Just like it took me and hour, a phone call to my sister, and some thinking to get the DVD player. The thing that struck me about the whole owner's manual concept was it's relation to the Bible. There are no specifics on how I am to live my life. It doesn't tell me that my clothes should be a certain way or that I should vote a certain way. It does, however, give me guidance in those decisions... ideas on modesty and leadership characteristics.
BTW, check back tomorrow... I'm going to try to have Comments "installed"!! Woohoo... wish me luck and say a prayer it doesn't drive me insane!!

My deepest sympathy to the Yankovic family. For those of you who haven't heard yet, Al's parents passed away Saturday. For more information, check out his official website. There is a very nice message from him on there. Another tidbit, and the reason I mention him here, I have been told that he is a member of the church of Christ in California. I think someone may have mentioned the church where he leads worship, but I forget.
At any rate, my heart goes out to him and his family...

Happy Good Friday and good Shabbos!! AND and early Happy Easter!!
Can I just tell you that I feel really blessed to have gotten to know a really nice actress from ASF? I don't tell you this to say, "look at me and what I've gotten to do", but to really brag on her. Shannon Warrick is one of the MFA (Master's of Fine Arts) students at the Festival in the PAT (Professional Actor Training) program. The poor thing is understudying Truvy and Ouiser in Steel Magnolias AND is in Titus Andronicus which runs at the same time. She is so nice and has been working so hard on those lines. Okay, this is how sweet she is... she bought me a thank you present!! Last night, she gave me a bag of stuff from Bath and Body Works that had an eye pillow with lavendar and flax seed in it as well as some chamomile (and something?) lotion and spray. These are all supposed to be good for sleep and relaxation... and I did sleep nicely last night!!
Welp, that's all for now... el Dios le bendice siempre...

Happy Maundy Thursday!!! Here's an excerpt from Christianity Today's website that sort of explains it:
"Maundy" comes, possibly by way of one or more European languages, from the Latin "mandatum," meaning "command." The reference is John 13:34: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." Jesus spoke those words at the Last Supper, which took place the Thursday before Easter.
If you want to read more, check out Travis' blog. He's got some links to some articles on Holy Week.
He's also got a link to some info on Taize', France. If you've never been to a Taize' service, they're really pretty neat. I went to one at a friend's church and really enjoyed it. Maybe some group affiliated with the church of Christ here in town will start one...
Anyway, Happy Maundy Thursday and I hope you're having a good Holy Week...

Okay, so I wasn't as diligent last week with posts, but that's okay, I just work an 8 to 5 job AND do volunteer theatre work... at any rate...
I actually watched Inside the Actor's Studio last night. Now I don't necessarily agree with the philosophies or ideologies (religious or theatrical) that the actors on there have, but I do find it interesting to hear what they have to say in response to the questions. I can do without the "what's your favorite curse word" one quite nicely though.
Last night, Kevin Costner was "in the hot seat" at the studio. I was very pleased to hear that he has some of the same philosophy that I do in regards to theatre. He said that he has to "find a secret" in a script that he really wants to share. He also believes that, in a nut shell and boiled down, an actor's job is to tell the story. The first one is a philosophy that I learned from William Ball via Stephen Elrod. They both state that you have to find the beauty and the meaning in a show in order to truly do it justice. I think there's got to be some deep driving meaning to you in doing a show. I pretty much always find a "moral" of sorts to the shows I'm in that make it worth doing. I don't always; I don't always look, either. But I do find that I learn something with every show I do... some something theatrical, technical or acting. Ah, his second philosophy... Sam may have been the one that I first heard this idea from. I like it... it's true... it keeps it simple enough to understand, too. That's what you're doing... collaboratively... telling the story that the writer put down on the page.
I think part of why I like it is the religious side of these philosophies. You can apply this to your life as a Christian and how you live and show Christ to others. In a sense you are an actor, you are telling the story and that the moral of it has great value to you. This story, this life that you live, has depth and meaning and value and beauty to you. That's our jobs as humans is to tell the story. The question then becomes... what's the story you're telling?
